What is Meditation?
Meditation is essentially any practice that involves focusing the mind on a single point for an extended period of time. As the mind focuses on this singular point, any thoughts or worries fade away, leaving the practitioner with a deep feeling of peace and joy. Often, the focus in on your breath, a sound, or a visual. When you can learn to quiet the mind, you can delve further into the layers of your inner being and allow your true essence to rise to the surface.
There are numerous different meditation styles, and nearly every religion and culture have it in its own form. Regardless of the style or type of meditation you choose to pursue, the benefits are generally the same, though.
The Benefits of Meditation
Meditation is a unique practice because it provides benefits to you physically, mentally, and spiritually. However, to gain these benefits, the practice of meditation should be continued over a long period of time and incorporated into your daily routine. You can begin by practicing for only 5-minutes a day and then gradually increase this amount of time as you gain more experience. Personally, I started meditation at bed time. It was time to easily set aside, and it helped me fall asleep easier. Some of the many benefits of meditation include:
